The Renewables Grid Initiative e.V. (RGI), founded in Berlin in 2009, calls for transparent and environmentally compatible network expansion in order to enable the further steady growth of renewable energy and energy transition. To achieve this goal, RGI brings people together that otherwise would not likely talk to each other, nor work with each other. For this purpose, workshops, webinars and international exchange programs are organized under the motto "Energy Regions in Transition". In cooperation with the European Commission, the Renewables Grid Initiative e.V. awards the "Good Practice of the Year" Award. Through their work, the 9 employees have been able to build trust between the members of the initiative, who have been able to tackle common challenges, such as improving planning and approval procedures for grid expansion projects, and better participation and information for citizens and stakeholders.
