80,000 Hours was founded by Will MacAskill and Benjamin Todd in 2011, in Oxford. It is part of the wider Effective Altruism network, and was incubated by the Centre for Effective Altruism.
80,000 Hours works to help people maximise the social and environmental impact of their careers. In conjunction with Oxford University and the wider Effective Altruism community, 80,000 Hours produces in-depth research into which career paths create the most impact under different circumstances. The team then operationalises this impact through training and workshops, articles and other learning tools, the publication of a career guide and advocacy activities. As part of the Effective Altruism community, 80,000 Hours also helps foster a worldwide network of people and organisations collaborating to develop the Effective Altruism mission.
